Carlton Cellars Oregon Dolcetto 2009
Now this is a rare wine. You don't see a lot of Dolcetto in our neck of the woods. This is a big, friendly, smooth-talking Italian red made in Oregon, Carlton Cellars style.
We sourced the fruit from our friend Dick Erath, who promptly grafted all his Dolcetto vines to Pinot Noir — guaranteeing that this wine, in this vintage, is one of a kind! So here's to something deliciously different. Alla salute!

Tasting notes:
Bright, pale to medium ruby color, with purple tints. Medium-plus youthful aromas of ripe cherry, strawberry, cherry-cola, nutmeg, and hint of licorice. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium alcohol, medium-light body, medium-light tannin, medium-plus acidity. Whereas the wine's aromas are dominated by spice, the youthful flavors are predominantly of fruit with notes of strawberry, tart cherry, raspberry and watermelon. The finish is of medium length.
Tasting date: February 20, 2011
