Carlton Cellars Road’s End Pinot Noir 2007
This is a 3-vineyard blend from proprietor Dave Grooters. Now, Ken Wright made the wines under this label through the ’06 vintage. But this ’07 is the first made completely by Grooters and his team, without Wright’s direction. Between that and the sketchy quality of some ‘07s, this wine was on my “try before you buy” list without question. Luckily for all of our palates, the questions have been answered with a resounding “Yum!” The fruit character is a bit darker than the two wines above, but the pure, supple fruit is there in spades. There are minerally highlights and a long finish, too. Like the others, it’s ready to drink and is immensely appealing for its fresh, juicy, fruit-driven character and the purity and transparency of the fruit flavors. Another wine that’s hard to put down.
